I've been doing some research on the Blasket Islands, a small group of small islands off the southwest coast of Ireland. They are no longer inhabited by human beings, but remain an object of great interest to the outside world. Here are some photographs I was lucky enough to come across.
Take a look at the lace in this portrait of the Infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia of Spain, 1599, by Juan Pantoja de la Cruz. Amazing!
Here's a delightful gift -- three pages of photographs of the interior of Sant' Appolinare in Classe in Ravenna, Italy.
In addition to the paintings on the first page, there are the world-renowned mosaics on the second, and two marble sarcophagi on the third.
