The New Lifetime Reading Plan: The Classical Guide to World Literature, Revised and Expanded, by Clifton Fadiman, John S. Major.
Sounds like a great idea. I was fortunate enough growing up to have some great books in the house, so my eclectic reading familiarized me with quite a bit of Russian as well as English and American classics. But it would be great to approach it more systematically and not miss out on major works.
