It's Sunday and so I have searched long and hard for a worthy church site. Many churches and cathedrals have "virtual tours," but the photos or QTVR's tend to be smallish and therefore not truly inspiring.
This, however, is quite spectacular -- Milan Cathedral (Duomo), at the Arounder site. There are nine views in all, three of the exterior and six of the interior. The interior shots are much superior to the others. Several of them come with gorgeous organ music, sometimes even with Gregorian Chant. I tell you -- not to be missed!
If you have time for only one, I recommend --
Stained glass (with Gregorian chant)
And once you see that one, you will probably want to check out the other five interior views --
Nave Apse Altar (with organ) Transept (with organ and choir) Crypt (with organ and choir)
.
For days I have been struggling, unsuccessfully, to put together a page on Reims Cathedral, France. Until such time as I might succeed in that, I offer this page of wonderful photographs on the broader topic of Gothic cathedrals in general.
Now here is one fine-looking building -- the Chateau de Chambord, 1519-1547, by Domenico da Cortona, at Chambord, France.
These five additional photographs show it off from different angles and viewpoints.
Since today is Sunday, it seems fitting that we go to church. I propose that we go to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art site, and then to its search page and look for "church interiors."
And here's where LACMA takes us, in chronological order --
Antwerp Cathedral, 1612, by Paul Vredeman de Vries Interior of the Mariakerk, Utrect, 1651, by Jan Pietersz Saenredam Interior of the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft, Tomb of William the Silent, 1653, by Emmanuel de Witte Interior of a Church at Night, 1660, by Ludolf De Jongh and Anthonie De Lorme
