Here's one more set of wood sculptures -- Nativity with Angels and Shepherds, ca. 1485 (limewood, polychromy). It's at the Rijksmuseum, in Amsterdam.

This is sublime. Lovely! The homeliness of the shepherds, the beast straining its neck to see the Christ, the weightless loft of the angel's hair (at lower right), the solemn and protective hands and face of Joseph, the flamelike hands and blush of Mary, and the serene vulnerability of the naked Son of God--this is one of those great works that simply overflows with beauty and truth. Thank you for finding it for us all!
