I'd never heard of the American artist Fitz Henry Lane (1804-1865) before I arrived on the Internet about 12 years ago, but I fell in love with his work right away and have remained under his spell. The National Gallery in Washington, D.C., owns three of his works, at least of them masterpieces.
My longtime favorite is Becalmed off Halfway Rock, which Lane did in 1860.
The Artcyclopedia site has its usual excellent list of museums which hold other Lane works.
