I wish everyone in the world would listen to President Bill Clinton on this short video clip, and do exactly as he has done. What a beautiful world we would have when animals were no longer abused as they are now.

Fifty people

I love the idea of this slideshow, and much of the content too. It's fifty American progressives. Yes, warts and all. But fifty people who cared about others and who dedicated much of their lives to helping them.

An unhurried gait

This isn't exactly beautiful, but it's thought-provoking and memorable. It's a quote from Peter Matthiessen's The Snow Leopard:

Briefly, the wolves gaze about, then make their way up the mountainside in the unhurried gait that may carry them fifty miles in a single day.

The night sky

It's possible to learn so much about astronomy on the Web. Just being able to identify objects in the sky on any given night is such a pleasure. A good site for that is EarthSky.org.

Ave atque vale

One comes across the Latin phrase Ave atque vale ("Hail and farewell") quite often, but this morning was the first time I can recall seeing its source given. It's from an elegy by Catullus to his dead brother. A poem worthy of its long life.
