Once again I find myself under verbal and spiritual assault by members of my family. My sin is that I have advocated that my 86-year-old mother needs to eat healthy food from time to time and that she will do so when treated with patience and a bit of dignity. Now, you might not think that there is anything so terrible in those positions -- but they infuriate some members of my family. And so they respond with all manner of infuriated attacks on me. No amount of vehemence is spared. Their position seems to be: this person must be silenced at all costs.
In casting about for a means of rediscovering a sense that the world does contain a degree of decency, my 'tree project' comes to mind. I've been thinking for a while that I would like to become more aware, and more appreciative, of trees, especially those in my immediate environment.
Toward that end, I've also been thinking that I should do a short "tree census" of any place that I live. To count each tree in my immediate environment, take a few notes on it, try to identify it, that sort of thing. Giving each one a name might be going a bit far, but you see what I mean, I'm sure. :-) .
