The Albertina (Vienna)

The Albertina Museum in Vienna, Austria, specializes in Old Master drawings and prints.  It has 153 works on display in the superb Google Art Project.   Just browsing through all this excellence makes me feel better.  May it have the same effect on you!  

 

 

List of people

This might seem totally off the wall.  And it might be entirely off the wall too.  Sometimes lists of people seem beautiful to me, and energizing as well.   Just now I was researching a bit on "non-theistic religion" which took me to the Ethical Culture Society which in turn led to the Fieldson School of Riverdale, NY.   And then I found this list of people who had attended or graduated from the Fieldston School and there was just something wonderful about it. 

Bucket

To me this little bucket is quite lovely.  It was made by the Mt. Washington Glass Company and resides at the Corning Glass Museum.

Annunciation (Garofalo)

If you get up close to this Annunciation, done in 1528 by Garofalo, you'll see that it's a pretty extraordinary painting.   This work is owned by the Musei Capitolini, Rome. 

 

 

Illness

Someone in my family is very ill.   I had done some research and posted a beautiful quotation from the Bible here but find that, due to subsequent events, it will be better if I remove those kind and beautiful words.

Fra Angelico (miniatures)

      The Convent of San Marco Museum in Florence, Italy, presented an exhibition a few years ago on Fra Angelico's illuminated manuscripts.   Although the exhibition closed some time ago there is, Deo gratias, its online counterpart continues.   (Note: the exhibition also looked at the work of Zanobi Strozzi and a few other artists, but they are not my focus here.)  

        Fra Angelico's illuminated initials and miniatures are found in the Choral books (Corali) section of the exhibition.   Four works are attributed to him and his assistants: 

Graduale di San Domenico (39); Close-ups

Salterio II (16); Close-ups

Missale II (33). Close-ups  

        In its iconography section, the exhibition also groups individual items according to theme.    The Glossary looks interesting but appears to be useful primarily for the learning of Italian!
