I'm not sure that this watercolor is exactly beautiful but it's certainly lovely. It's called View from the Artist's Studio and was painted by Jakob Alt in 1836. It's at the Albertina in Vienna. (Be sure to get up really close in order to appreciate it.)
I like this painting very much. It reminds me of a self portrait by Jacob Lawrence that is a favorite of mine. Jacob Lawrence worked in gouache. I looked for an image of that painting to show you but only found a tiny one. You can see it if you scroll down the page:

am, thank you. When I saw that you had posted a comment on this painting (but before I read it), I realized that it has a lot in common with some of your photographs. :-) Thank you too for the Jacob Lawrence reference and link. His work always seems to me so full of affection and even love.
